FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do you attach GHOSTech Strike Indicators to the line?

GHOSTECH Screw on Strike Indicator Attachment Instructions

A:Installation instructions:

It’s Simple…THEY SCREW DOWN to fasten securely without slipping

Run your line down through the center of the fastener threads through the horizontal cut shown in the diagram here and screw down to fasten to your line.

As long as your nut is above our horizontal insert slit you do not need to take the nut off the fastener; SO NO MORE LOST NUTS!

(You control the tension on your line so the more you tighten the better they grip. Just tighten until they are snug, give a little pull test and fish on)

How to install your strike indicator to your fly line.

GHOSTech Strike Indicator Installation Steps

1) Make sure indicator nut is above our 90 degree horizontal slit Marked by red dotted lines in photo diagram provided here (Also you can see this on the diagram on the back of the packaging)

2) Run your line horizontally through the indicator - once you reach the horizontal center of the fastener you can run the line down the v-cut to help assist in the tightening of the nut

3) Once the line is as far as it can go resting gently on the floating air pucks turn the nut clockwise to tighten snugly on the line NOTE: Our air pucks are EXTREMELY rugged use the are pucks to grab onto in addition to the head of the bolt - it will not pop the bubbles - This will give you a better firmer grip. To really lock down.

4) Test to make sure the line is snug but not over tightened ( you can do this by pulling the indicator up and down the line [similar to how you would do with split shot]) NOTE: If the line slips you can tighten some more it will not damage the bubbles or your line.

5) Cast away - the most beneficial aspect of the indicator aside to how naturally it casts and that it does not scare fish when it hits the water is how easy it is to adjust various depths...we recommend you should be constantly adjusting to find the most effective depth for catching fish.

Q: Are they really Splash Free?

A: Yes GHOSTech indicators are the worlds only splash free fly fishing indicators.

That is why we invented these. We were sick and tired of splashy big bobber indicators that would splash and scare fish so we invented these to have a stealthy ghost like approach. Fish really wont know you are there. These indicators are significantly less weight than other leading indicators. (Typically 1/5 the weight of other traditional bobber style fly fishing indicators)

We always say you never know what you are doing wrong to prevent you from catching fish and we really do not know how your splashing even in deep / murky water impacts your catch rates. So we recommend that you should use these any time you are indicators fishing; remember one little mistake can be the big difference from you catching that once in a lifetime fish.

Q: HOW WELL do they cast?

A: They cast just like a large dry fly. (so for new anglers they are different for sure.)

If you have the proper leader(we recommend using a standard indicator style leader or standard fly line) with the correct length of tapered leader and tippet the indicators are similar to casting yarn or a large dry fly. They need a little more power in your cast and that will take a bit of time but after a few casts (less than a day on the water for most anglers) the casting style will become second nature. Now for folks that fish 24/7 365 it will take you a bit longer to learn the feel (think of it this way you need to change the muscle memory you have created from years of fishing….give it a try and you will love how well it casts)

Q: How well does it cast in the wind?

A: Honestly it is a pain…just like anytime you cast a fly in the wind. The better you are at doing it the easier it will be for you.

Truth be told anytime there is a ton of wind fly fishing is a struggle. Now you just added one more device to your line so it is going to of course be more difficult. That being said for nymphing on streams and rivers you are not typically casting huge distances so it is manageable. That being said there is some positives with the design in the wind. The low profile prevents cross winds from blowing your indicator off drift. Unlike other indicators our system rides low to the water which creates a more natural drift and will prevent the indicator from catching a breeze and blowing off the target area

Q: Why do the indicators come with extra pucks? / What do you mean they can be adapted to any water type?

A: So you can change your buoyancy to fit your individual needs (no need for different sized indicators)

The benefit of GHOSTech Strike indicators is that you can adapt our indicator to various types of water conditions. If you are fishing light weight in small native streams you can use just one air puck. Going to medium to small rivers with a bit more weight add a second puck. Larger streams or rivers add three(3) or more. Additionally our indicators have been created in the most durable manor though we know through extensive use they can become worn due to excessive or improper use (we want to take care of our clients so we throw in two(2)extras just in case).

We as anglers always strive to create products that we ourselves wished existed on the market; bottom line we do it for you. During the creation process we realized that there is a need for adaptability while fishing, and frankly we were getting sick and tired of having to buy three(3) different packs of indicator sizes for the same body of water. So me made sure our indicators could adapt to your needs as anglers.

Q: What sized line and tippet can be used with GHOSTech Indicators?

A: Smallest 7x to Largest 60LBS Mono (yes we know you don’t need anything that thick - but it can)

If you look at the diagram above about how they indicators attach that is 60 LBS mono (so really darn thick) and we have frequently tested and used all the way down to 7x tippet material.

Q: How thick are they?

A: Depth / Thickness - less than 1/8" (per puck) so one puck is 1/8" - with second puck it is about a 1/4" and obviously with three it is 3/8"

- The flat profile helps to reduce air resistance and allows the fly line to maintain being the weight that casts your line with limited drag through the air to maintain a fly lines natural casting attributes .

Q: What is the diameter of the puck?

A: The Diameter of the air pucks are less than 1"

This flat profile we have found creates a more natural drift as the indicator is not influenced by top water current as drastically and does not allow wind to take indicators off course as the low profile prevents wind from catching the indicator during the drift. Additionally we have found that our design allows better visibility by an angler and zero impact to fish sensing the indicators - we even conducted under water views and it looks like a leaf floating down the water and have out performed other indicators on the water for effective hookups.

Q: What do you mean by they are ADAPTABLE? / Do you need to have more than one size indicator pack?

A: One pack of our indicators can adapted to different size / weight flies, and different water conditions.

All you need is one pack of our indicators and you can change the buoyancy. Our indicators were built for you and in the design process we knew we had the options to either make different sizes or a product that can be changed for different weights or water conditions. So we created a product that could be adaptable for your needs. The last thing an angler wants is more stuff in their pockets so by simply adding or removing our floating air pucks from the threaded fastener you can change the buoyancy to fit your needs. So no need for you to buy different sizes of our indicators we generally say that our indicators can fish 80% of the water conditions you can find here in the USA.
